Today is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day! It is time to show our appreciation for the incredible School Resource Officers who serve as a bridge between staff, students, Miamisburg's police force and our community. SROs make their presence known by identifying unwelcome visitors on district property while training us how to react quickly during emergency situations. Let's take a moment today to thank them for their outstanding service. Give a "thank you" to Officer Copsey & Officer Albert when you see them!

This is National School Counseling Week! Our counselors are essential to the success of our school community. They act as first responders to student concerns, aiding in identifying and meeting social/emotional needs. Additionally, they provide academic and career guidance for students so that each individual is able to reach their fullest potential. Thank you to our wonderful counselors this week and every week! đź’™

Governor Mike DeWine recently announced that the Miamisburg City School District is one of more than 900 schools across Ohio that will receive state funding support for physical safety and security upgrades. These funds are part of Ohio's K-12 School Safety Grant Program. The grant program by the Ohio General Assembly is part of House Bill 45, signed by Governor DeWine last month. The district will receive $840,000 to enhance the physical security of its ten school buildings. The grant monies are to be used to pay for expenses such as new security cameras, public address systems, automatic door locks, visitor badging systems, and exterior lighting. Miamisburg plans to use the grant money for security improvements, including intrusion detection, exterior doors, interior doors, windows, visitor procedures, parking/parking lots, visitor control, mass communications systems and intrusion surveillance. The district applied for the grant funds, after which a thorough security and vulnerability assessment was performed. The state used the assessment results to determine how much money to allocate to each district. A total of 945 schools received a combined $68 million in grant monies as part of Ohio's K-12 School Safety Grant program's fourth round. A fifth round of funding will be announced in the coming weeks. “We look forward to utilizing these funds to improve our district’s safety and security measures,” said Dr. Laura Blessing. “We are thankful to state officials, who understand the importance of ensuring our schools are secure and safe places for our students to learn and grow.”

The district would like your input on the proposed changes to our elementary school attendance boundaries. These changes are aimed at addressing current programming needs for half and full-day kindergarten and an imbalanced student population across the district's elementary buildings. Your opinion is important to us! Town Hall Meeting - Medlar View Elementary School, February 8, 2023 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

What is Title I? Title I Part A is a federal grant program that provides financial assistance to schools with high percentages of children from low-income families. How do schools qualify for School-wide Title I Status? Completion of a five step process, including verification that at least 40 percent of the student population is from low-income families (living below the poverty level), which is submitted to the Ohio Department of Education for approval. #MCSFinanceFridays

Did you know that the Miamisburg City School District has seven elementary schools and one primary school? Each building population ranges from 176 students to nearly 400! After extensive research, the District is proposing changes to elementary school attendance boundaries aimed at addressing the disproportionate student population, as well as, addressing current programming needs for half & full-day kindergarten. Our next Town Hall meeting to discuss these proposed changes is tonight at 6:00 p.m. at Maddux-Lang Primary School. We hope to see you there!
