MIamisburg High School Moving to Hybrid Learning Model

The district announced on Monday, November 2nd that Miamisburg High School will switch to a Hybrid Learning Model beginning on Monday, November 9th until after winter break. A great deal of thought and planning went into this decision. As a district, we follow quarantine guidelines put forth by the local health department which means any person in close contact of a positive COVID case must be quarantined for 14 days. The close contact is described as closer than 6 feet or less for a cumulative 15 minutes. We are seeing an increase in our number of students and staff needing quarantined following these guidelines, not as a result of positive COVID cases.

While the students are quarantined, it is challenging to meet all the educational needs for students and the learning environment for students is inconsistent. Moving to a hybrid learning model will help provide a better opportunity to meet all the educational needs of all students and maintain consistency. The hybrid model also reduces the number of students on buses, in classrooms, hallways, and the dining hall allowing the students to be spaced more and reducing the number of students that would require quarantine should there be a positive COVID case.

Students will attend in-building two days a week and will participate in at-home learning three days a week. Not all of the at-home assignments will be virtual or digital. Teachers will work with students that do not have a device or reliable internet at home with alternatives to any required digital assignment.

We recognize this is not a perfect situation. However, from the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year,  the goal of Miamisburg City Schools' is to stay in school. We believe this is a change that needs to be made in order to keep our students in school and meet their educational needs.
